Daily Color: “Be courageous with color. Let it pour out of you.” –Susan Vreeland, “Clara and Mr. Tiffany”

As should be no surprise, I ended the old year and began the new one with color...

First, I finished this marvelous jigsaw puzzle that my son gave me a while back:

1,000 Colors Puzzle, from Colossal

1,000 pieces, 1,000 colors, each piece a slight shade or grade different from all the others. Heaven.

Dear friends--my old college roommates--visited for New Year's. They did not come empty handed! First, my friend from Maine brought, at my request, a pearl cotton color card and two sample spools, one #5 and one #10, from Halcyon Yarns. I am trying very hard not to order a spool in every color, in both weights.

And she and my friend from New York City (knitters, the both of them!) brought gifts: a gorgeously soft, WARM handknitted sweater/shrug from Argentina; elegant stitch markers in three sizes, from Venice; and a bag of brilliantly dyed silk cocoons!

Be still my heart... Apparently, the silk cocoons can be soaked and, when soft, the silk fiber can be unspooled from the cocoon. If I try this, I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out. But the cocoons are so beautiful as is I'm not sure I want to mess with perfection.
